I wanted my white duck's movement to be dynamic - walking, flying and moving her head, so I created her to be both a hand and string operated puppet. She sits very nicely on her feet - they stop her keeling over on her round bottom. Her legs have a forward walking movement and a separate rear string which pulls them backwards when she flies.
Her body is made from charity shop finds - a feathery textured scarf, a white sheet, a yellow scrap of fabric for the beak and an old broderie anglais cushion. Her feet are felted.
Her head and wings are firmly quilted to give definition and structure to her features.
